The century-old Dhobi Ghat also known as world's largest open-air Laundromat is situated near Mahalaxmi railway station and the race course. The heritage washing zone is also home to close to 8,000 slum dwellers.
Under the project that was mooted over a decade ago, the heritage washing area would retain its existing identity, the slums housing around 1,118 families would be rehabilitated by the Mumbai-based developer.
With this the slum redevelopment project that has been pending for nearly a decade is expected to commence in the slum adjoining the drying ground.
