Mumbai gets new residential hotspot

BKC is among the priciest business districts in India, with rentals ranging between Rs300 and Rs350 a square foot a month.

Mumbai — Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), which has emerged as the financial and business hub of Mumbai, is rapidly emerging as a luxury residential hotspot as well, with select projects coming up in the nearly 1,000 acre district.

While the Maharashtra government planned BKC as a finance hub and as an alternative to Nariman Point, it had also reserved plots of land for a few residential projects, besides a diplomatic enclave, hospitals and luxury hotels. With many leading international and Indian financial institutions and banks having their operations in BKC, and the Bharat Diamond Bourse, one of the world’s largest diamond centres, becoming operational, demand for luxury apartments has soared.

BKC is among the priciest business districts in India, with rentals ranging between Rs300 and Rs350 a square foot a month. Last month, a leading Gulf bank signed a deal for taking on rent about 20,000sqf of office space at around Rs320 a square foot.
